Dayasiri calls for Speaker's resignation over alleged CIABOC probe
· Sri Lanka
Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Parliamentarian and Attorney-at-Law Dayasiri Jayasekara has called for the immediate resignation of the Speaker of Parliament, asserting that the dignity and impartiality of the legislature are compromised by ongoing integrity investigations.
Addressing the media, Jayasekara claimed that the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) has initiated inquiries concerning the Speaker. He maintained that it is untenable for an official holding the highest parliamentary office to remain presiding over the legislature while under active review by an anti-graft body.
Jayasekara stressed that standard parliamentary ethics and democratic governance traditions require individuals under scrutiny to vacate their positions temporarily until cleared of all allegations.
The parliamentarian urged political party leaders and parliamentary representatives across both sides of the aisle to adopt a unified stance on the matter to preserve institutional transparency and uphold public confidence in the legislature.
