Afternoon thundershowers expected across several areas from tomorrow

The Department of Meteorology announced that atmospheric conditions are becoming favourable for afternoon thundershowers across multiple parts of Sri Lanka starting from tomorrow (October 01).

Showers or thundershowers are particularly expected in parts of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, and Uva provinces, as well as in the Galle and Matara districts during the late afternoon or evening hours.

Meteorologists noted that temporary localized strong winds and severe lightning strikes could accompany these convective cloud systems, posing potential risks to outdoor activities and transport.

The department advised the public to adopt necessary safety measures to minimize damage caused by lightning activity and urged coastal communities to remain vigilant regarding localized weather shifts.
