UNP Introduces Millennium UNP and Gen Z UNP to Restructure Party Membership

The United National Party (UNP) has officially announced the introduction of two generational membership groups, Millennium UNP and Gen Z UNP, as part of its efforts to restructure party membership.

The representation of the two generations was formally announced yesterday (30) by former President and UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe at the party's Working Committee meeting held at Sirikotha headquarters in Pitakotte.

Millennium UNP represents individuals between the ages of 35 and 40, while Gen Z UNP comprises young men and women born after the year 2000.

UNP Chairman Wajira Abeywardena stated that this was the first time a political party in Sri Lanka had promoted a membership structure representing two distinct generations in this manner.

He also revealed that the Working Committee had held extensive discussions on the UNP Green Paper, which outlines a 20-year development programme instead of the traditional five-year election manifestos.

Furthermore, Abeywardena said that former President Ranil Wickremesinghe had explained the importance of political parties working together under a common agreement rather than operating independently. He had also outlined a proposed mechanism for achieving such cooperation during the meeting.
