Unexpected twist in Rohan Dennis case as disgraced Olympian makes surprise request

There’s been an unexpected twist in the case involving disgraced Olympic cyclist Rohan Dennis.

With a jail term hanging over his head, he’s requested a new judge hear sentencing for driving while disqualified.

In June this year, the father-of-two was reported for driving while disqualified and his car was impounded for 28 days after police allegedly observed him driving with two children as passengers.

This followed the tragic death of his Olympian wife Melissa Hoskins in 2023, where Dennis was given a suspended 17-month jail term and banned from driving for five years in 2025.

In July this year, Dennis pleaded guilty to the driving-while-disqualified charge when he appeared in Adelaide Magistrates Court.

Meanwhile, a judge had previously warned the former Olympian that he would be jailed if he drove while disqualified.

The case is now in the District Court and Dennis will face sentencing on September 4.

The court is also expected to deal with his breach of a good behaviour bond.

At sentencing in May 2025, Dennis had agreed to the $100, two-year good behaviour bond and his driver’s licence was suspended for five years.

Hoskins, 32, was struck by her husband’s vehicle near their home at Medindie, in Adelaide’s inner north, on December 30, 2023.

She suffered serious injuries and died in Royal Adelaide Hospital.
