Sarvajana Balaya Raises Concerns Over Youth Issues and Anti-Terrorism Law

Representatives of Sarvajana Balaya expressed their views on issues affecting young people and the Anti-Terrorism Act at a media briefing.

Attorney-at-Law Major Agasthi Weerasinghe, the party’s Dambadeniya electorate organiser, and Keshni Punchihewa, a member of the youth front, addressed the media.

Speaking at the briefing, the representatives criticised what they described as attempts to arrest and imprison people indiscriminately, stressing that punishments for offences should be practical and proportionate.

“People are being arrested and attempts are being made to send them to prison for everything,” they said, raising concerns about the treatment of individuals over matters such as tattoos.

They emphasised that those who commit crimes should be punished, but cautioned against arresting innocent people or falsely accusing individuals of criminal offences.
