Sajith speaks to Sri Lankan facing death penalty in Saudi Arabia by telephone

Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa engaged in a direct telephone conversation with Sivarasa Anojan, the Sri Lankan youth currently held on death row in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

During the call, Premadasa inquired about Anojan's well-being and assured him that concerted efforts would be made to appeal for clemency. He stressed that saving the life of a fellow citizen must be treated as an urgent national and humanitarian priority regardless of political affiliations.

Premadasa urged the President and the foreign ministry to accelerate direct communications with the highest levels of the Saudi government, appealing for royal intervention to commute the capital punishment.
