Merit-based MBBS admissions sought for reserved category students

Alleging that meritorious reserved-category candidates were being denied their rightful seats under the Open Competition (OC) quota, the Liberation Congress Party (LCP) on Thursday demanded that the Andhra Pradesh government immediately halt the ongoing MBBS counselling process, withdraw or amend G.O. No. 102, and restart admissions under G.O. No. 151.

Addressing the media at a programme organised by Andhra Pradesh Medicos Parents Association in Vijayawada, LCP national president Vijay Kumar G. Srkr said the party had warned the government months ago that G.O. No. 102 would result in injustice to SC, ST and OBC students and that the first round of Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences 2026 MBBS counselling had vindicated its concerns.

Mr. Vijay Kumar said 43 reserved-category candidates in the AU region, who secured ranks better than the OC cut-off rank of 71,547, were allotted seats under their respective reserved categories instead of being considered under the OC quota. Similarly, 27 reserved-category candidates in the SVU region, who scored better than the OC cut-off rank of 94,966, allegedly faced the same situation.

He said their main demands included immediate steps to stop the further rounds of MBBS counselling under G.O. No. 102; withdrawal or amendment to the order to restore the OC entitlement of meritorious reserved-category candidates; cancellation of admissions allegedly made in violation of the applicable rules and conduct of fresh counselling under G.O. No. 151; issue of a written response to the Medicos Parents Association and the LCP representations and a public announcement on the corrective action for affected students.

The LCP urged Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav to clarify what corrective measures his department would take to protect the interests of affected SC, ST and OBC candidates.
