The meeting brought together representatives of key government institutions designated to lead and support the implementation of the NEDP 2026–2030, with the objective of strengthening inter-agency coordination and ensuring the effective and timely implementation of the Plan.
The session followed by remarks by the Secretary, Ministry of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development, who highlighted the importance of coordinated action among government institutions in translating the national export development agenda into tangible outcomes.
The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the EDB delivered a comprehensive presentation on the NEDP 2026–2030, outlining its strategic direction, key objectives, priority sectors and implementation framework. The presentation also highlighted the roles and responsibilities of Lead Implementing Agencies in advancing the initiatives identified under the Plan.
The NEDP 2026–2030 provides a national framework to strengthen Sri Lanka’s export competitiveness, diversify export products and markets, enhance trade facilitation and logistics, improve access to trade finance and investment, strengthen quality and standards, and promote innovation, skills development and sustainable export growth.
The Plan has set an ambitious target of increasing Sri Lanka’s exports to approximately US$36 Bn by 2030, comprising merchandise and services exports. Achieving this target requires coordinated implementation across government institutions, the private sector and other stakeholders.
A key focus of the meeting was the need to strengthen institutional coordination, establish clear accountability and ensure timely implementation of activities assigned to Lead Implementing Agencies. In this regard, agencies were requested to nominate a focal point to facilitate effective coordination and communication on NEDP implementation.
The meeting also emphasized the need to identify implementation bottlenecks and develop practical solutions to fast-track the implementation of NEDP activities.
The discussion provided an opportunity for participating agencies to review implementation priorities, clarify institutional responsibilities and identify areas requiring greater coordination and support.
During the meeting, the guidelines approved by the Secretary, Ministry of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development, in line with the Cabinet decision, were circulated among the Lead Implementing Agencies to guide the implementation of the NEDP 2026–2030.
The coordination meeting marks an important step in strengthening the institutional mechanism for implementing Sri Lanka’s national export development agenda and advancing the country towards a more competitive, diversified and sustainable export economy.
