Sri Lanka’s representation at the World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA) 2027 is gaining momentum, with Melbourne-based Keshi Fernando joining Team Sri Lanka as both its promoter in Australia and a contestant at the international competition.
Recognised as the Talent Olympics, WCOPA brings together performers from more than 70 countries, offering singers, dancers, actors, models and instrumentalists an opportunity to showcase their abilities before international industry professionals.
Keshi’s inclusion marks another step in expanding Team Sri Lanka’s international presence, with Sri Lankans living overseas also coming forward to support and represent the country.
A Journey of Achievement and Cultural Pride
Keshi has already made her mark in the pageant world, winning the Woman of the Universe Asian Crown and the title of Melbourne Avurudu Kumari 2026. She describes her journey as one shaped by dreams, determination, cultural pride and a passion for the performing arts.
For Keshi, these achievements represent more than personal milestones. They reflect her Sri Lankan heritage and the values she continues to uphold while living in Australia.
“Winning the Woman of the Universe Asian Crown has been an unforgettable milestone, and being Melbourne Avurudu Kumari 2026 allows me to celebrate and honour the beautiful traditions of my Sri Lankan community in Australia,” she said.
An old girl of Holy Family Convent, Kalutara, Keshi traces her interest in leadership, music and performance to her school years. She served as both Junior Western Band Leader and Senior Western Band Leader, experiences that helped develop her confidence, discipline and teamwork.
She says these formative opportunities encouraged her to embrace new challenges while remaining connected to her cultural background.
Taking Sri Lankan Talent to Las Vegas
Her next ambition is to represent Team Sri Lanka at WCOPA 2027, scheduled to take place from July 12 to 20 at the Westgate Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, United States.
Keshi hopes to use the international platform to showcase her talents, explore new opportunities and make her family and the Sri Lankan community proud.
“My story is still being written, and I look forward to embracing every opportunity that comes my way, while staying true to who I am and where I come from,” she said.
Keshi’s appointment follows the recent announcement that Canada-based Lakisha Bernard has joined Team Sri Lanka as its promoter in Canada, reflecting the growing involvement of the Sri Lankan diaspora in the initiative.
