Former Sri Lanka Cricket Curator Godfrey Dabare Dies at 62

Former Sri Lanka Cricket national curator Godfrey Dabare passed away on September 29 at the age of 62.

Dabare played an important role in Sri Lankan cricket through his work in pitch preparation and ground maintenance at venues across the country, helping ensure grounds were ready to host international matches.

He also served as Sri Lanka Cricket’s International Cricket Venue Manager, working closely with curators and ground staff during international tours and major tournaments.

His contribution was particularly highlighted during the rain-affected 2023 Asia Cup, when ground staff worked extensively to protect playing surfaces and prepare venues for matches amid challenging weather conditions.

In recognition of their efforts, the Asian Cricket Council and Sri Lanka Cricket announced a US$50,000 reward for curators and groundsmen involved in maintaining venues in Colombo and Kandy during the tournament.

Dabare’s passing marks the loss of a dedicated figure who worked behind the scenes to support international cricket in Sri Lanka.
