Bishop’s College Crowned Overall Champions at 11th Amity Table Tennis Championship

Bishop’s College Colombo emerged as the overall champions at the 11th annual Amity Table Tennis Championship, defeating Methodist College Colombo at a tournament held at Scott Hall, Methodist College.

Bishop’s dominated the competition by winning three of the four age categories, securing the overall championship and marking the school’s sixth overall victory in the Amity Encounter since its inception. Methodist College has recorded five overall victories.

The Bishop’s Over-16 team, captained by Pramukshi Fernando, played a key role in the school’s success. Fernando delivered an outstanding performance, winning both of her singles matches as Bishop’s secured a 3-1 victory in the category.

Methodist College claimed the Under-10 encounter with a 3-2 victory, while Bishop’s College recorded a 3-1 win in the Under-12 category. Bishop’s continued its strong showing in the Under-16 category with a 3-0 victory before completing the championship campaign with a 3-1 win in the Over-16 category.

The winning Under-12 team comprised Jeydra Rajendra (Captain), Aarushi Ramesh, Sanjena Sanjeevan, Sancika Sanjeevan and Andriana Gunadasa.

The Under-16 championship team featured Tehara Meewakkala (Captain), Tiyaana Punchihewa, Imaya Lokugamage, Luxshitaa Thuvaragan and Vihara Herath.

The Over-16 champions were Pramukshi Fernando (Captain), Lyara Wickramasekera, Sandilma Gamage, Nihernzaa Washanth and Bevinie Jayanesan.

Methodist College’s Under-10 runner-up team consisted of Meha Prasath (Captain), Laymitha Sivalohithan, Ramithya Mahendran, Gihansa Egodagama and Maryam Fulail.

The event was attended by Reshani Wickramanayake, a former Prefect and Table Tennis Co-Captain of Methodist College Colombo in 2007, who served as the chief guest.

Bishop’s College’s latest triumph adds another chapter to the school’s strong record in the Amity Encounter and highlights the growing competitiveness of school-level table tennis in Colombo.
