200 Japanese Tourists Fly to Sri Lanka in Major Group Visit

A group of 200 Japanese tourists departed for Sri Lanka on Sunday on a single SriLankan Airlines flight, in what the Sri Lankan Embassy in Japan described as an encouraging development for tourism between the two countries.

The group, organized by the Little Japan Group, departed from Narita International Airport aboard SriLankan Airlines flight UL455.

Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Japan, Prof. Pivithuru Janak Kumarasinghe, and First Secretary (Commerce) Sandun Sameera met the tourists at the airport ahead of their departure.

During their stay in Sri Lanka, the visitors are expected to travel to several tourist attractions, including Sigiriya, and experience traditional Ayurveda treatments and wellness offerings.

The Embassy said it provided support, guidance and facilitation for the visit, which was organized by the Little Japan Group.

Ambassador Kumarasinghe said the movement of 200 Japanese visitors to Sri Lanka on a single flight was among the largest organized groups of Japanese tourists travelling to the country together.

He said growing interest among Japanese travellers, alongside efforts by Sri Lanka’s tourism industry and other stakeholders, could further strengthen tourism exchanges between the two countries.

The Ambassador also expressed hope that increased arrivals from Japan would contribute towards Sri Lanka reaching and surpassing its previous tourist arrival records.
