Water Quality issue : Supply Returns to Most Colombo, Gampaha Areas; Some Delays Remain
· Sri Lanka
Water supply has been restored in most affected areas of Colombo and Gampaha after tests were carried out on water samples from the Kelani Ganga intakes, the National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB) said.
The testing was conducted with the assistance of the tri-forces following concerns over the quality of water around the intakes serving the Ambatale and Kelani Right Bank water treatment plants.
Earlier, the NWSDB temporarily suspended water distribution to several areas in the Colombo and Gampaha districts on the advice of the Disaster Management Centre after an emergency situation raised concerns that the quality of water obtained from the Kelani Ganga could have been compromised.
However, the NWSDB said there could be delays in restoring water supply to several areas in Battaramulla, Kotte and Pamankada. (Newswire)
