Three‑year‑old girl dies after drinking chemical in Gampola

A three‑year‑old girl from Vavuniya has died after mistakenly consuming a chemical substance used to preserve fresh milk at a relative’s house in Deltawatta, Gampola.

Reports state that the child from Settikulam, Vavuniya, had been visiting relatives with her parents. 

According to the post‑mortem examination at Gampola Hospital, she had drunk the liquid thinking it was water.

Relatives from Vavuniya were gathered in the yard last afternoon when the girl went inside the house, climbed onto a window, and consumed the chemical. 

Despite immediate attention, she succumbed to poisoning. (Newswire)
