Sri Lanka's inflation surges to 8.1% in August

Headline inflation in Sri Lanka, recorded through the National Consumer Price Index (NCPI) on a year-on-year basis, climbed to 8.1% in August 2026, showing an acceleration from the 7.2% recorded in the preceding month of July.

Data released by the Department of Census and Statistics indicated that rising food costs, alongside adjustments in transport and utility expenses, contributed to the upward pressure on price levels across urban and provincial regions.
