Sri Lanka Braces for Heavy Rain as Low-Pressure System Develops
· Sri Lanka
The Department of Meteorology has warned of increased rainfall across Sri Lanka and surrounding sea areas today (October 22), following the development of a low-pressure area.
Director of the Forecasting Division Meril Mendis said the system is expected to influence weather conditions across the island, as well as in deep and shallow sea areas surrounding Sri Lanka.
Showers or thundershowers are expected at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern and North Western provinces, as well as in the Mannar District. Skies in these areas are also expected to remain cloudy.
Showers or thundershowers may occur in other parts of the country after 1.00 p.m.
Heavy rainfall exceeding 100 millimetres is possible at some locations in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North Western provinces.
The Department has urged the public, including fishing and naval communities, to remain alert to future weather forecasts and advisories issued by the authorities.
People are also advised to take necessary precautions to minimise accidents caused by temporary strong winds and lightning associated with thundershowers.
The public is urged to remain vigilant and follow official weather updates as the low-pressure system continues to influence conditions across the island.
