September elderly allowance to be credited to Aswesuma accounts on October 1

The Welfare Benefits Board officially notified the public that financial assistance earmarked for senior citizens under the elderly allowance scheme for September 2026 will be deposited into recipients' Aswesuma bank accounts on October 1. The timely disbursement aims to safeguard vulnerable elderly populations from ongoing cost-of-living pressures.

According to the Board, the funds will be transferred electronically directly into verified bank accounts, ensuring transparency and reducing bureaucratic delays. Beneficiaries or their registered legal representatives will be able to access the funds through ATM facilities and branch counters of participating state and commercial banks island-wide.

The Aswesuma social welfare program was established to create a unified, data-driven mechanism for poverty alleviation and social assistance, replacing earlier welfare systems. Ongoing validation exercises ensure that only eligible, verified elderly citizens receive government-funded monthly stipends.

The Board appealed to senior citizens and family members to ensure their bank accounts remain active and in compliance with banking regulations to prevent any transaction failures during the scheduled nationwide transfer.
