Saudi coalition accuses Houthis of drone attack on Madinah
· World
The Saudi-led military coalition announced on Thursday that Yemen's Houthi movement carried out a drone strike targeting an electrical power distribution facility in the holy city of Madinah. Military spokespersons stated that air defense mechanisms tracked the unmanned aerial vehicle before it impacted the utility site.
The coalition confirmed that although the strike resulted in localized damage to auxiliary electrical transformers and sparked an immediate emergency response, no casualties or major disruption to the city's broader power grid were recorded. Firefighting crews brought the localized fire under control quickly.
Coalition command denounced the assault as a deliberate and hostile attempt to target essential civilian infrastructure and sacred grounds, warning that such escalations violate established international humanitarian law. Several Muslim-majority nations have since issued statements condemning the incident.
The coalition reaffirmed its readiness to adopt necessary operational measures to neutralize hostile airborne threats, safeguard civilians, and protect critical facilities across the kingdom in accordance with global conventions.
