Over 17,500 drug-related forensic reports issued in two months – Justice Minister

Minister of Justice and National Integration, Attorney-at-Law Harshana Nanayakkara, stated that a total of 17,506 forensic reports related to narcotics offences have been issued over the preceding two months.

Addressing the media, the Minister emphasized that clearing longstanding backlogs of chemical analysis reports from the Government Analyst's Department is critical to facilitating prompt hearings in magistrates' courts across the country.

Nanayakkara noted that procedural streamlining and the provision of additional analytical resources have enabled this increase in output, preventing unnecessary procedural delays in narcotics prosecutions.
