Sajith Premadasa Calls for Concessionary Schemes to Help Students and Emerging Photographers Purchase Camera Equipment
· Sri Lanka
Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa has called for a mechanism to enable school photography societies and aspiring photographers to purchase camera equipment through concessionary schemes.
Describing photography as a beautiful hobby, Premadasa said he also enjoys wildlife photography. He noted that exhibitions such as Image Expo play an important role in encouraging photography and supporting the emergence of professional photographers and photography-based entrepreneurs.
He pointed out that photography societies have been established in schools, bringing together students who are interested in learning and practising photography. He proposed introducing a scheme through which these societies could obtain cameras at concessionary prices.
He also called for young people pursuing photography and camera-related activities as businesses to be given access to equipment through affordable loan facilities or instalment payment schemes.
Premadasa made these remarks while attending Image Expo 2026, organised by CameraLK at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) premises in Colombo.
During the event, he viewed the latest camera equipment and met both experienced and amateur photographers attending the exhibition.
