Renewable Energy Group Calls for Budget Relief to Address Solar Sector Challenges

The Renewable Energy Development Front has submitted a letter to the Ministry of Finance highlighting technical barriers, policy shortcomings and other challenges affecting the renewable energy and solar power sectors.

The organisation has called on the government to address these concerns and provide appropriate relief through the upcoming national budget.

It also warned of the risks associated with the country's dependence on the Norochcholai power plant, stating that a breakdown of even one of its generating units could potentially disrupt electricity supply across the island.

The group has therefore urged authorities to strengthen renewable energy generation and storage capacity to reduce the country's dependence on a single major power source and improve the reliability of the national electricity supply.

H.J. Ruwan Chamara, Chairman of the Renewable Energy Development Front, made these remarks.
