Ravi Karunanayake Arrives at Bribery Commission Following Weekend Visit to Residence
· Sri Lanka
Former Minister and MP Ravi Karunanayake arrived at the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) on Monday (Aug. 31).
His appearance comes after a team of CIABOC officials visited his residence on Parliament Road on Saturday morning.
Reports said the officials had visited the residence after Karunanayake did not appear before the commission despite being requested to do so in connection with an investigation.
However, Karunanayake’s media team said the MP had not deliberately avoided appearing before CIABOC.
According to his media team, Karunanayake had been informed to appear before the commission but was unable to attend on the specified date. His lawyers had subsequently requested another date for him to appear.
CIABOC officials left the residence after finding that Karunanayake was not in Colombo.
The specific investigation in connection with which Karunanayake has been summoned has not been officially disclosed. (Newswire)
