Railways issues circular restricting social media use during duty hours
· Sri Lanka
The Sri Lanka Railway Department has issued a special circular prohibiting officials and employees from using social media during duty hours and from publishing sensitive information related to railway operations.
The Department said the move follows observations that some staff members had been posting sensitive operational details on social media while on duty.
Authorities warned that such actions could seriously undermine the credibility of railway services, passenger safety, and institutional discipline.
Under the new circular, only the General Manager of Railways, the official media spokesperson, and the Information Officer are authorized to release official information to external parties or the media.
The circular, signed by the General Manager of Railways, further states that strict legal action will be taken against officials who violate these instructions. (Newswire)
