President pushes for removal of obstacles to revive construction sector

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake convened a high-level meeting with government officials and construction sector leaders, stressing the imperative to remove systemic obstacles that have paralyzed commercial and infrastructure development.

The President emphasized that the construction sector plays a central role in national economic recovery, acting as a critical catalyst for job creation, industrial demand, and infrastructure development across urban and rural communities.

Key challenges highlighted during the discussions included delays in government contract payments, escalating raw material costs, high financing rates, and protracted regulatory approval processes spanning multiple state departments.

Dissanayake instructed ministry secretaries and regulatory agencies to establish streamlined review mechanisms and clear outstanding contractor liabilities, ensuring that viable public and private construction projects resume without unnecessary delay.
