Preity Zinta, Suniel Shetty among new CBFC members

The government has reconstituted the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) with 18 members, including actors Preity Zinta, Pankaj Tripathi, Suniel Shetty, Manoj Joshi, Priyadarshan and Prosenjit Chatterjee.

The new board will take effect immediately and have a tenure of three years or until further orders, whichever is earlier, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting said in a notification issued on September 16.

Other prominent names on the reconstituted board include actor and filmmaker Pallavi Joshi, actor Roopali Ganguly, filmmaker Neela Madhab Panda, actor Nishigandha Wad, singer Hansraj Hans and filmmaker Waman Kendre.

The 18-member board also includes Vinod Anupam, Abhishek Jain, Ricky Kej, Supriya Yarlagadda, Yatindra Mishra and Ramesh Patange.

The CBFC is responsible for certifying films for public exhibition in India.

The government had appointed Shashi Shekhar Vempati as CBFC chairperson in May 2026 for a three-year term. He took over after Prasoon Joshi stepped down following his appointment as chairman of Prasar Bharati.
