Muslim Left Front Slams Government for Failing to Fulfil Promises After Two Years
· Sri Lanka
The Muslim Left Front has criticised the government for allegedly failing to fulfil its promises two years after coming to power, claiming that rising living costs and prices of essential goods continue to burden the public.
Speaking at a media briefing in Colombo, M. R. M. Faisal, General Secretary of the Muslim Left Front, said the government had promised to reduce food prices, fuel prices, electricity bills and medicine costs, but the public had yet to see the promised reductions.
Faisal argued that the government's claims of having sufficient funds would mean little unless ordinary citizens also had more money in their hands. He accused the government of misleading the public with promises during the election campaign.
He also criticised the government over religious affairs and alleged that its actions were contributing to the promotion of racial divisions. Referring to the wearing of traditional Muslim caps during political campaigns, he questioned the apparent difference between the government's campaign behaviour and its expectations at public events.
The remarks were made during a media briefing held by the Muslim Left Front in Colombo.
