More details emerge on Dematagoda shooting

Police have revealed additional details regarding the fatal shooting of a three-wheeler driver near the 'Kalu Palama' (Black Bridge) in Dematagoda on Thursday evening. The victim was ambushed by armed assailants who fired multiple rounds before fleeing the scene.

Following the shooting, local residents and police rushed the critically injured driver to the Colombo National Hospital, where medical staff attempted emergency resuscitation. However, hospital authorities confirmed shortly afterward that he succumbed to fatal gunshot wounds.

Special police teams and criminal investigation officers have recovered ballistic evidence from the crime scene and are reviewing CCTV footage from adjacent roads. Preliminary findings suggest that the targeted shooting is linked to an ongoing dispute between rival criminal gangs operating in the suburban Colombo region.
