Milinda Rajapaksha Claims Proposed Organised Crime Bill Aims to Intimidate Professionals and Journalists
· Sri Lanka
The Bahujana Balaya has raised concerns over the proposed Organised Crime Bill, alleging that it is intended not only to target politicians but also to intimidate professionals, journalists and social activists.
Speaking at a media briefing, Bahujana Balaya representative Milinda Rajapaksha claimed that journalist Nilantha Thathsara was being targeted as the first victim of the proposed legislation.
He further alleged that Cabinet Minister Sunil Senevi had sent a letter against Nilantha Thathsara.
Rajapaksha also claimed that several individuals who had been exposed for spreading false information had been summoned to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
He alleged that attempts were being made to secure electoral support by creating tensions between different ethnic and religious communities.
Criticising the President's recent remarks at an event involving academics, Rajapaksha questioned the nature of the issues discussed, referring to comments about rituals, superstitious practices and traditional exorcism ceremonies.
