When she was crowned Miss Universe Sri Lanka 2024, Melloney Dassanayaka stepped into the spotlight as the face of Sri Lanka on one of the world’s most recognised international stages. For Melloney , the crown was never meant to be the destination, it was a beginning – but beneath the glamour of pageantry is a woman whose ambitions extend well beyond beauty titles — a banker, professional model, former national basketball player and advocate for women’s financial empowerment.

Her journey to the global stage began with a childhood fascination with pageantry. What was once a dream shared with her mother while watching beauty competitions gradually became a reality through determination, discipline and a willingness to step outside her comfort zone.

In September 2024, Melloney emerged victorious from a field of 18 contestants to claim the Miss Universe Sri Lanka title. She also received recognition for her catwalk and evening-wear presentation, before travelling to Mexico to represent Sri Lanka at the 73rd Miss Universe competition.

The international experience was demanding. With limited preparation time and the enormous pressure that accompanies a global competition, Melloney found herself navigating not only the expectations of representing an entire country but also the realities of competing in an increasingly digital pageant environment.

MORE THAN A MODEL – ACHIEVEMENTS

Away from the runway, Melloney has built a career in banking, backed by a Business Administration degree and experience in relationship management. Her growing interest in financial literacy and economic independence has led her to advocate for women making informed financial decisions and building long-term security. She hopes to extend this work to underserved communities and women-led households.

Melloney has also earned recognition for her professional achievements, being named Multifaceted Career Woman of the Year 2025 at the Youth Top 40 Awards Night and honoured as Legendary Woman of the Year 2025.

COLOMBO FASHION WEEK 2026 : COUTURE + TROUSSEAU

 Melloney Dassanayake made her Colombo Fashion Week 2026 debut with a strong three-day runway presence, showcasing an impressive range of designers and styles. She opened with LOVI Sri Lanka before walking for international designers including Rizwan Beyg, Arsath Furkhan, Haoyi Yan and Samant Chauhan, and concluded the showcase with Vaishali Shadangule. Her versatility across the collections highlighted her ability to move effortlessly between contemporary glamour, couture and distinctive international aesthetics.

A PLATFORM WITH PURPOSE

Melloney is increasingly vocal about redefining what it means to be a beauty queen. For her, beauty extends beyond appearance to include intelligence, emotional strength, leadership, confidence and the ability to create positive change. Her involvement in community and philanthropic initiatives, including Rotaract, reflects this belief. She views service not as a résumé achievement, but as an important part of personal growth and responsibility.This philosophy also shapes her definition of success. Beyond titles and professional milestones, she values family, friendships and being a source of support to those around her.

THE NEXT CHAPTER – Miss Grand International All Stars 2026

Although her Miss Universe Sri Lanka reign has ended, the crown has opened doors to a much larger journey. Later in the year, Melloney will represent Sri Lanka at the Miss Grand International All Stars, which is more than a beauty pageant—it is a global entertainment platform that brings together beauty, talent and culture under its bold concept, “Entertaining the World with Beauty.”

The Miss Grand International All Stars is an exclusive platform that brings together beauty queens who have previously represented their countries on major international stages, including Miss Universe, Miss World, Miss International, Miss Earth and other globally recognised pageants.

 The Miss Grand International All Stars 2026 competition will be taking place from 27th November to 12th December 2026 in Bangkok, Thailand. We wish Melloney Dassanayake  the best of luck  in her journey ahead!
