Man, 81, dies after allegedly being threatened with knife and robbed in Broken Hill, NSW

An 81-year-old man has died more than two weeks after he was allegedly assaulted and robbed by a man known to him in NSW’s Far West. The man was found with serious injuries at a home on Argent St in Broken Hill about 2pm on September 13.

Police were told a man had allegedly demanded money and threatened the 81-year-old with a knife before assaulting him and stealing cash. The victim suffered head injuries and fractured ribs and was taken to Broken Hill Hospital in a serious condition. He died in hospital on Wednesday, more than two weeks after the alleged attack. Following investigations, a 38-year-old man was arrested at a motel on Victoria St in Dubbo on September 14. He has since been charged and remains before the courts. Police allege the 38-year-old was known to the older man. A report will be prepared for the coroner.
