Kotte Sri Kalyani Maha Sangha Sabha Meets to Discuss Ven. Gnanasara Thera’s Issue

The Kotte Sri Kalyani Maha Sangha Sabha convened today at the Kotte Raja Maha Viharaya under the leadership of Most Venerable Ittapane Dhammalankara Mahanayake Thera, the current Mahanayake of the Kotte Chapter of the Sri Kalyani Samagri Dharma Maha Sangha Sabha.

Speaking to the media following the meeting, Agga Maha Pandita Senior Professor Venerable Kotapitiye Rahula Thera said the Sangha Sabha had come together to discuss the issue concerning Venerable Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thera.

He stated that the Sangha Sabha’s decision would be announced at a later date.

“We have stood up for Venerable Gnanasara Thera and the entire Buddhist clergy up to now, and we will not abandon that position,” Venerable Kotapitiye Rahula Thera said.

He added that the Sangha Sabha continued to stand for the Buddhist community, its values, traditions and cultural heritage.

“Our position will not change, and we remain united in the decision taken by our Sangha Sabha,” he said.

However, he explained that the decision could not be disclosed immediately, as it had been reached collectively by the Sangha Sabha and would need to be formally communicated.
