Khalid Oshman Makes History As Sri Lanka’s First Visually Impaired Triathlete To Win Para Open Category

Sri Lankan triathlete Khalid Oshman has made history by becoming the first visually impaired athlete from Sri Lanka to win the Para Open Category at the Ironman 70.3 World Championship.

Competing alongside his guide Mithun Liyanage, Oshman completed all three disciplines of the challenging event — swimming, cycling and running — as a team.

Their strong performance saw the pair secure first place overall in their division, marking a landmark achievement for Sri Lankan para-triathlon.

The victory highlights Oshman’s determination and the importance of teamwork in overcoming the demanding physical challenges of long-distance triathlon at the world championship level.
