Iran-Oman deal reached on navigational corridors through Hormuz: Baghaei
· World
Iran and Oman have reached a bilateral agreement establishing the exact geographical coordinates for designated safe transit corridors through the strategic Strait of Hormuz. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei confirmed the pact during a press briefing in Tehran, highlighting maritime coordination between the two littoral states.
The designated corridors are structured to streamline commercial shipping, reduce the risk of maritime incidents, and delineate safe navigational routes for vessels entering and departing the Persian Gulf. Tensions in the narrow waterway have escalated significantly in recent months due to regional hostilities and heightened military patrols by international naval forces.
Baghaei underscored that the framework was finalized following several rounds of technical and diplomatic talks in Muscat. He noted that the initiative reflects Iran's commitment to maintaining regional maritime security through neighborly cooperation without external foreign military intervention.
