India U-19 cricketer suspended after age discrepancy found in records

India U-19 leg-spinner Rohit Yadav has been suspended for two years after an age discrepancy was uncovered during a document verification process conducted by the Bengal Cricket Association.

The investigation found a 27-month gap between Yadav’s recorded age and the details contained in his actual records, according to the report.

Yadav, who was part of India’s U-19 squad that toured Sri Lanka in July, has subsequently been dropped from the squad selected for the upcoming limited-overs and Test series against Australia.

The inquiry has reportedly resulted in sanctions against 65 other players over alleged age-related discrepancies.

Among them is left-arm fast bowler Ravi Kumar, a member of India’s 2022 U-19 World Cup-winning squad.

Kumar, who has represented Bengal’s senior team since 2023, was found to have a discrepancy of more than 40 months between his actual age and the documents submitted, according to the investigation.

The Bengal Cricket Association has since annulled his age-group records from his debut through the 2025-26 season.
