Govt implementing reforms to prevent physical punishment, psychological abuse of children: PM

Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya announced that the Sri Lankan government is actively enacting policy and legal reforms to prevent both physical punishment and psychological abuse of children across educational and domestic settings.
Speaking on the occasion of World Children's Day, the Prime Minister underscored that safeguarding children's emotional security, mental health, and self-confidence is a central priority given the complex social and digital challenges affecting young generations.
Dr. Amarasuriya emphasized that creating a nurturing, safe environment requires collective responsibility from parents, teachers, and state institutions to replace punitive measures with supportive care.
