Assault on ex-President Ranil's security officer: Cameraman released on police bail

A cameraman attached to a private television station who had been taken into custody over an alleged altercation with a security officer assigned to former President Ranil Wickremesinghe was released on police bail on Thursday.

The suspect had been arrested by officers of the Kompannavidiya Police following a formal complaint lodged regarding an incident during media coverage of the former President.

Police stated that witness statements have been documented and that a report on the matter will be submitted to the competent magistrate's court.
