G. L. Peiris Says Public Awareness of Proposed Anti-Terrorism Bill Is Essential

Former minister G. L. Peiris has stressed the need to raise public awareness about the potential implications of the proposed anti-terrorism legislation, saying that legal action has already been initiated in connection with the bill.

Speaking during the concluding remarks and question-and-answer session of the People-Oriented United Opposition's media briefing, Peiris said informing the public about the legislation was a key priority at this stage.

He said the immediate objective was to help the public understand the potential dangers associated with the proposed legislation.

Peiris also confirmed that legal proceedings had been initiated, while emphasising the importance of ensuring that the public was aware of the bill's possible implications.

He reiterated that raising public awareness would remain a central focus of the opposition's efforts concerning the proposed anti-terrorism legislation.
