Four children fatally knocked down by van near Vadamadurai in Dinidgul district

Four children, including two sisters, were fatally knocked down by a van near Vadamadurai in Dindigul district on Sunday (August 30, 2026).

The police said Anjammal, 60, of Kanavaimedu near the Kollapatti Samathuvapuram, was grazing her goats near the national highway. Four of her relatives’ children were playing nearby on the road side. A van, carrying milk, mowed down the children who died on the spot. Apprehending trouble, the driver fled the spot.

The police identified the children as Yogavarshini, 11, daughter of Nagaraj, and her younger sister, Ananya, 6; Dhanusri, 5, daughter of Jagadeesan; and Mosikaran, 6, son of Chinnathambi. Anjammal fainted in the aftermath of the accident, and was rushed to a primary health centre, the police added.

Members of the public in the vicinity alerted the emergency service. With the assistance of the local people, the bodies were sent to the Government Medical College and Hospital, Dindigul.

The Vadamadurai police registered a case, nabbed the driver, and seized the vehicle. Investigations suggested the driver, identified as Saravana Kumar of Kurunthampatti near Ayyalur in the district, was driving the vehicle in a rash and negligent manner. As the vehicle went out of control, it hit the children. The driver’s confession was recorded, the police added.

Further investigation is under way.
