Father killed in alleged deliberate hit and run outside Fernvale home

A woman has been charged with murder after her partner was struck by a station wagon on a suburban street. Emergency services were called to Stoneywood St at Fernvale, west of Brisbane, shortly before 6pm on Sunday following reports a man had been hit by a vehicle.

Security guard Kyle Wilford, who has medical training, was among the first people to reach the man. “So I went down and found a male laying on the floor, unresponsive. I started CPR straight away,” he said. “It wasn’t looking good from the moment, unfortunately. There was no pulse. The eyes were gone.” “There were two other people trying to help. One was holding his head, and the other was rotating CPR with me. “It was terrifying, but we did everything we could. It’s a human nature thing ... is to try and preserve life.” Wilford also restrained the man’s partner until police arrived.

Police and paramedics also performed CPR at the scene, with a CareFlight helicopter deployed, but the man could not be saved. Neighbours said the couple had been arguing in the lead-up to the incident.

A 45-year-old woman was later charged with murder, treated as a domestic violence homicide, and disqualified driving. “There was a disturbance at the address that we have been investigating that led to him being struck by the vehicle on the street,” Detective Inspector Michael Manago said. He confirmed the couple were known to police, who had previously attended the address over domestic and family violence-related matters. “This is quite a traumatic incident that’s occurred in a public space ... in a rural area just outside of Brisbane,” he said.

At least one of the couple’s adult children was at the home when the incident unfolded, but police confirmed no minors were present. A white Commodore station wagon, has been seized by police. The woman was charged on Monday with murder, treated as a domestic violence homicide, and disqualified driving. She has been remanded in custody and is due to face Ipswich Magistrates Court on Tuesday. Police have urged anyone with information about the incident or the couple’s relationship to come forward as the investigation continues.
