England clinch T20I series with clinical win over Sri Lanka in Cardiff

England registered a comfortable victory over Sri Lanka in the second T20I of the three-match series played at Cardiff, securing a 2-0 series lead with one game to spare.

Having won the toss, England skipper Harry Brook opted to bowl first. Sri Lanka made two changes to their playing XI, leaving out Maheesh Theekshana and Dunith Wellalage, while debutant Tharindu Rathnayake and Dilshan Madushanka came into the side.

Sri Lanka started off brilliantly thanks to the 56-run partnership between Pathum Nissanka and Lahiru Udara for the first wicket, but thereafter they struggled to build momentum in the rest of the innings and posted 145/9 in their allotted 20 overs.

Pathum Nissanka top scored with 37 runs, while skipper Charith Asalanka contributed 31 runs. England’s left-arm spinner Liam Dawson was the pick of the bowlers, finishing with impressive figures of 3/32.

Chasing 146 for victory, England made light work of the target, reaching 146/4 in just 12.1 overs to secure a convincing six-wicket win.

Tom Banton provided the fireworks in the chase, smashing an unbeaten 52 off just 24 deliveries, including 2 fours and 4 sixes. His aggressive knock ensured England raced to victory with plenty of overs to spare.
