Long-awaited verdict in 2019 Easter Sunday attacks case to be delivered tomorrow

The verdict in the case filed against 24 defendants on more than 23,270 charges, including conspiring to carry out and aiding and abetting the Easter Sunday terrorist attacks, is scheduled to be delivered tomorrow (22). 

The trial was conducted before a three-judge High Court bench comprising High Court Judges Navaratne Marasinghe, Ramanathan Kannan, and Sujeewa Nissanka. 

A total of 2,309 witnesses testified for the prosecution in the case, which was filed by the Attorney General against 24 defendants, including Naufer Mawlawi. Following daily hearings, the recording of evidence for both the prosecution and the defence concluded on August 24. 

Upon concluding the extensive trial, the Colombo Three-Judge High Court Trial-at-Bar fixed September 22 as the date for delivering the verdict.
