Current govt. more authoritarian than JR Jayewardene, Dilith says

The Leader of the Sarvajana Balaya, Parliamentarian Dilith Jayaweera has accused the current government of implementing a level of authoritarian rule that even former President J.R. Jayewardene did not exercise.

MP Jayaweera stated that the present government had reached a point where it was refusing to heed even the advice and guidance of the Chief Prelates of the country.

He made these remarks while addressing a ceremony held in Buttala today (30).

The event, organised to present appointments to electorate-level leaders of the Sarvajana Balaya in the Monaragala District, was held at the Buttala public grounds this afternoon.

The ceremony was held under the patronage of Sarvajana Balaya leader Parliamentarian Dilith Jayaweera.

Addressing the gathering, MP Jayaweera said the policies and governance of the government show it is increasing concentration of power and disregard for established institutions and advice.

The Sarvajana Balaya leader alleged that the government’s conduct had gone beyond what was witnessed during the administration of former President J.R. Jayewardene, whose tenure is associated with significant constitutional and political changes in Sri Lanka.

He further argued that the government’s alleged refusal to heed the views of the Chief Prelate was a serious development that warranted public attention.
