The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has stated that it was not officially informed of the recent increase in wheat flour prices, while islandwide inspections have been launched against traders selling the product at excessive prices.
Speaking at a media briefing, CAA Chairman Hemantha Samarakoon said the authority learned through the media that the price of wheat flour had increased by Rs. 13.
He stated that, upon learning of the price hike, the authority had sent written requests to wheat flour manufacturing companies, asking them to clarify whether prices had been increased and to provide relevant information.
The chairman further explained that inspections were being carried out across the island to identify traders selling wheat flour above the applicable or displayed prices.
He warned that legal action would be taken against traders found selling wheat flour at prices exceeding the displayed prices.
Samarakoon also commented on Litro and LAUGFS gas during the media briefing.
