Battaramulle Seelarathana Thera has announced plans to visit Namal Rajapaksa at Welikada Prison, while criticising the President’s approach to addressing the country’s issues.
Speaking to the media, the Thera said travelling around the country and holding public meetings would serve little purpose unless the President took practical action that the public could see.
He also said a large-scale march in support of Ven. Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thera was expected to take place, with members of the public joining the protest.
However, Seelarathana Thera said he would be unable to participate in the march because he had other programmes planned to raise public awareness.
Calls for Existing Laws to Be Enforced
Commenting on the law, the Thera said there was no need to introduce new legislation and called for existing laws, including those inherited from the British colonial period, to be properly enforced.
He also highlighted several problems within the country’s prison system, including inadequate space and damaged roads in surrounding areas. He urged the Justice Minister to pay attention to these concerns.
Remarks on Rajapaksa Family Members
Seelarathana Thera said he had previously visited Shiranthi Rajapaksa.
He also referred to former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, saying that he had gone to hospital for a medical check-up.
The Thera concluded by wishing good health to everyone.
