Bambalapitiya Railway Station Reopens After Rs. 60 Million Upgrade

Bambalapitiya Railway Station has reopened to passengers following a Rs. 60 million renovation funded by Sri Lanka’s Dawoodi Bohra community.

The five-month upgrade has modernised several key facilities at the station, including platforms, sanitary facilities, electricity and water systems. The project also included the installation of CCTV cameras, construction of a new overhead bridge, and the addition of a cafeteria and other infrastructure improvements.

The renovation was carried out under the “Dream Destination” programme, an initiative aimed at modernising 100 railway stations across Sri Lanka.

The upgraded Bambalapitiya station is expected to provide passengers with improved facilities, greater convenience and a more comfortable travel experience.
