Vipul Misra Appointed New CEO of SriLankan Airlines

Vipul Misra has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of SriLankan Airlines, confirming an earlier report by Aviation Voice published on September 1, 2026.

Misra currently serves as the Head of Engineering at SriLankan Airlines, having joined the national carrier in 2024. He brings extensive experience in aircraft engineering and senior aviation management to his new role.

Before joining SriLankan Airlines, Misra held senior engineering and management positions at several major Indian airlines, including Air India, SpiceJet, Vistara and IndiGo.

His appointment comes at a crucial juncture for SriLankan Airlines as the national carrier prepares to undergo a major restructuring process. Misra is expected to play a key role in steering the airline through the transformation, with operational efficiency, financial sustainability and organisational restructuring likely to remain among the key priorities.

The Government has already initiated steps towards a strategic review and restructuring of SriLankan Airlines. In July, Cabinet approved the appointment of a special committee headed by Presidential Senior Adviser on the Digital Economy Dr. Hans Wijayasuriya to oversee the process.

Deputy Minister of Civil Aviation Janitha Ruwan Kodiththakku had previously said that the restructuring process was expected to commence within six months, following recommendations from the expert committee appointed by the Government.

Misra’s appointment places an aviation engineering professional at the helm of Sri Lanka’s national carrier as it enters a significant period of restructuring and transformation.

Aviation Voice first reported on September 1 that Misra was set to be appointed CEO. His appointment has now been officially confirmed.
