Zachary Uchtman faces long recovery after deadly shooting at Loganholme pub in Queensland

A young man’s life has been “turned upside down” after he was shot during a drive-by shooting at a Queensland pub that claimed the life of a 19-year-old woman. Zachary Uchtman, 27, was one of four people shot when two masked men opened fire during a boxing event at Fitzy’s Loganholme, south of Brisbane, about 8.15pm on Saturday. Two other injured men, Kane Barrett and Brodie Blackwood, have since been discharged from hospital. Uchtman, however, remains at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital after being shot in the abdomen. His twin sister, Amy, said he faces a “long road ahead” in his recovery, launching a GoFundMe to help cover his expenses as he recovers. “His world was turned upside down that night when he was shot, in seconds everything changed not just physically but mentally and emotionally!” Amy wrote. “Whilst he is so brave and incredibly strong he’s still got a long road ahead of him and it’s not going to be easy as you can imagine!” Amy said it was devastating to see her twin brother suffering, and wished she could take away his pain.

“Zach would never have the heart to burden anyone to ask for help so I’m doing for it him because after something this traumatic happens the last thing I want him to be worrying about is financial stress,” she wrote. Funds raised will go towards essential living expenses, bills and recovery-related costs while Uchtman is unable to work, Amy said. Amy also thanked those who had offered their support during the difficult time. “From the bottom of my heart, thank you to everyone who has reached out, shown concern, offered support or kept Zach in their thoughts,” she said. “We are incredibly grateful that we still have him here, and all we want now is to see him healthy, happy and back on his feet. “Zach has a long road ahead, but he doesn’t have to walk it alone.” A separate fundraiser has also been launched for Schuster-Togiatau’s family to help ease their financial burden as they grieve her death.

The fundraiser described the teenager as deeply loved by her family and friends, with strong ties to the Logan community where she was born and raised. Meanwhile, police are continuing to hunt those responsible for the shooting. Investigators said shots were fired from the passenger window of a silver Mitsubishi with no number plates. The vehicle was found set alight at Waterford West about 8.35pm, with police believing one of the offenders may have suffered burns. “Now, there is people out there, who know exactly who was involved in this offence and exactly why this occurred,” Detective Inspector Ian Galpin said on Thursday. “I’m asking those people to be brave enough to come forward with that information and contact police.”
