Sri Lankan racing driver Yevan David will return to the FIA Formula 3 Championship in 2027 after signing with Van Amersfoort Racing (VAR) for his second season in the series.
The 19-year-old completed his rookie campaign in 2026, finishing 18th in the Drivers’ Championship with 35 points. One of the highlights of his season was securing second place in the Silverstone Sprint Race, demonstrating his potential in the highly competitive championship.
David’s move to VAR marks a new chapter in his Formula 3 career as he looks to build on the experience gained during his debut season and challenge for stronger results in 2027.
Strong Record in Euroformula Open
Before making his Formula 3 debut, David competed in the 2025 Euroformula Open Championship, where he enjoyed an impressive campaign. He finished second in the overall standings, recording six victories and 14 podium finishes.
His performances in the series helped establish him as a promising young talent in single-seater racing and provided a strong foundation for his progression to Formula 3.
David Welcomes New Challenge
Speaking about his move to Van Amersfoort Racing, David said the opportunity came at the right time in his career.
“Stepping into VAR for the 2027 FIA Formula 3 season feels like the right move at the right time,” he said, highlighting the team’s leadership, experience and competitive approach.
He added that he was eager to learn from the team, contribute to its culture and compete against the strongest field in junior single-seater racing.
“The challenge is big, but so is the opportunity. I’m ready to work, grow and deliver everything I can throughout the 2027 season,” David said.
VAR Targets Stronger Results
Van Amersfoort Racing Team Principal Brad Joyce welcomed David to the team, praising the potential he demonstrated during his first Formula 3 season, particularly his second-place finish in the Silverstone Sprint Race.
Joyce said the move would provide David with a new environment for his second year in the championship, with the team aiming to turn his experience into stronger results.
The team also looks forward to working with David during the post-season test, which will provide an important opportunity to prepare for the 2027 campaign.
With a season of Formula 3 experience behind him and an impressive record in Euroformula Open, David will aim to take another step forward as he begins his next chapter with Van Amersfoort Racing.
