World CIO 200 Summit 2026 Grand Opening Ceremony Successfully Held in Colombo

The inaugural day of the global “World CIO 200 Summit 2026,” bringing together Chief Information Officers (CIOs) and technology leaders spearheading digital transformation across public, enterprise, and social sectors, was held today (23) at Cinnamon Life, Colombo. Scheduled to run from September 23 to 25, the summit aims to position Sri Lanka as a global technology hub and align national digital policies with international standards. The opening ceremony was held under the patronage of the Prime Minister, Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, with the participation of the Deputy Minister of Digital Economy, Eng. Eranga Weeraratne.

Addressing the inauguration, Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya emphasized the government’s vision for the digital economy. She stated that digital transformation must deliver clear and equitable public value, highlighting that modern technology should be leveraged to elevate living standards, expand new economic and professional opportunities, strengthen public services, and ensure inclusive economic participation across all segments of society.

The event was attended by distinguished leaders, including the Minister of Science and Technology, Hon. Prof. Chrishantha Abeysena; Deputy Minister of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development, Hon. Chathuranga Abeysinghe; Secretary to the Ministry of Digital Economy, Mr. Waruna Sri Dhanapala; and Senior Advisor to the President on Digital Economy and Chairman of GovTech Sri Lanka, Dr. Hans Wijayasuriya. A prominent delegation of local and international diplomats, tech entrepreneurs, and global CIOs also participated in the summit’s opening day.
