Workers’ Struggle Centre Holds Talks with GMOA on Proposed Anti-Terror Bill
· Sri Lanka
The Workers’ Struggle Centre held discussions today with the Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) as part of a programme to brief trade unions on the new anti-terror legislation proposed by the Government.
The discussions focused on the proposed Protection of the State from Terrorism Bill, which has been introduced as a replacement for the existing Prevention of Terrorism Act.
Speaking during the meeting, Duminda Nagamuwa said that if the proposed legislation is introduced, there could be restrictions on the ability to conduct protests, launch strikes or even speak against the Government.
He expressed concern over the possible impact of the proposed legislation on trade union activities and public dissent.
Dr. Gishantha Dasanayake also expressed his views during the discussion.
